Plans to breathe new life into Morpeth’s railway station - TopicsExpress

Plans to breathe new life into Morpeth’s railway station continue to gather steam. A £1m scheme would see parts of the property which have been unused for many years transformed into six or seven business units plus a cafe and kitchens, alongside rail ticketing facilities. The station is a Grade II Listed building which has undergone various alterations during its history and the proposals include the reintroduction of its formal portico entrance. A planning application for the development, which has yet to be considered, has been submitted to Northumberland County Council by the Greater Morpeth Development Trust. The Trust’s previous work includes the £1.2m redevelopment of Morpeth Town Hall in 2009. If the scheme gets the go-ahead it is hoped that it could be completed by March 2016. Further details are available on the Northumberland County Council website.
