Plantation subdivision--Oppose Cell Tower. Editor: Gondolier Sun-- The building of a cell tower on residential land within the Plantation Golf and Country Club subdivision must be stopped! Construction by Florida Tower Partners LLC at a site on Woodbridge Drive requires a special exemption permit from Sarasota County. This land is zoned single-family residential (RSF-2PU). Construction will proceed unless concerned property owners voice their opposition. The tower would be as close as 600 feet to homes within Plantation, seen throughout Plantation and by adjacent neighborhoods such as the Lakes of Jacaranda. It will dominate the skyline of the golf course. At the equivalent of 12 stories, this tower is simply not in keeping with the character of our community where the tallest existing building is three stories. Residents are concerned that property values will decline with a compromised view and troubled by possible health risks from tower emissions. Why construct something that could take away from the natural beauty of the community, lower the value of our homes and create future health ramifications? Six years ago, demand for the tower was driven by spotty cell coverage and safety concerns. Coverage and phone technology have improved. Where home construction degrades signal quality, a new tower may not help. Today, few residents have issues and 911 dispatchers report few dropped calls from this area. For those still displeased with cell service, there are alternatives: a different service provider, the installation of an M-Cell within the home, use of land lines and Internet. Concerned citizens are challenging the construction of this tower.
