Platinum used to be so cheap that people threw it in the bin after - TopicsExpress

Platinum used to be so cheap that people threw it in the bin after scientific experiments. And thats in the early 1960s - you dont have to go back to when people thought it was a form of unripe gold. The nice thing about platinum, even at the rate were using it, is that we can dig for more of it, rummage through giant dumps and raid the jewellery boxes if we ever run out. Its like aluminium prices in reverse - that used to be so rare and valuable that they made the apex of the Washington Monument out of the stuff. Helium, not so much. At least until we can harvest it from the rest of the universe, where its more common than muck. In the meantime, using it in party balloons isnt particularly wise, even if thats the sure sound of a party pooper pooping on your party. Pooping your party, that sounds better than pooping on your party. Now, putting up strings of them with scary faces in someones bedroom so that you can frighten the life out of them, thats at least defensible. Party poppers, theyre fun. And we have plenty of gunpowder. I said this three or four years ago, round about the last time when the BBC ran a very similar eh, should we? story. I expect Ill say it a third time in about three years and then let it go.
