I will provide you with my analysis once you have completed your self check. Now onto your performance as a flanker. Using the same scoring system plus adding comment where appropriate, complete this self assessment of elements of your competence: Set Piece Scrum - good body position, low, head up, straight back Bind tightly on fellow players Line out Win ball when thrown to you at back Win ball in reduced line out Acts as sweeper when required Rips ball from opposition Rucks and mauls Approaches aggressively Good body position Supports the ball carrier Secures or wins the ball Handling Secure the high/rolling ball Catch cleanly from left Catch cleanly from right Pass using left hand Pass using right hand Attacking Adopts position to receive ball Adopt lines of running which fixes opposition Threaten with pace and running skill Retain possession and make ball available Resume your role immediately Provide essential continuity in attack Defending Hunt ball carrier to make tackles Tackle aggressively Exert pressure on opponents Adopt positions to fulfil role Select effective running lines As a more senior player in the squad, what do you consider to be your role on the training ground supporting the coach and on match days supporting the captain? This is a sound platform from which to develop your personal competence as a rugby player. I hope other Mariners reading this will take time out to reflect and analyse their own competencies. Looking forward to the next stage of this mentoring process. Chris
