Playing Minecraft, it turns out, can teach kids creative thinking, geometry and even a bit of geology, and research shows they can learn experimentation, teamwork and problem solving skills, as well. Hmmm. Good to know. Ive never allowed video games other than Wii sports before Izzy discovered Minecraft through his new friends. Ive sat and watched him play and keep looking for something that could turn him into a basement dwelling burden on society (joking stereotyping sarcasm intended) but I cant ever find anything that makes my mom radar go bonkers. Izzy plays in creative mode and just builds houses and waterfalls and volcanoes and such. He loves it. And he gets tired and walks away before I have to tell him time is up. And the music is extremely soothing. Odd but true. So for now, its a good thing.
