Playing Wagners Rienzi Overture so I thought Id finally share some of my photos taken in May of Wagners Festspielhaus in Bayreuth. Fascinating tour of the hall and backstage...even the orchestra pit which is unlike any other Ive seen. Only the conductor can see the musicians as a shell covers them and forces the music up and back into the stage where it combines with the singers voices and is thrust forward to the audience. Note the chart of the various sections of the orchestra. The next to last picture was taken from the conductors chair that allows him to watch the musicians and the actors. The tour was all in German, but we had an interestingly translated copy of the tour spiel to read. - Hoyt
