Playing in the snow with your pet can be loads of fun, so here are some Winter tips to watch for: Check your pet often for frostbite on their ears, tails, and feet. Cold temperatures can cause skin discoloration or hypothermia. Salt and ice-melters can act as a skin irritant, be sure to wash their feet off after coming indoors. Examine the pads of your dog’s feet for signs of cracking or irritation. A pet-specific foot balm will help condition the pads. Antifreeze is poisonous and can be deadly if pets drink it, make sure all bottles are tightly closed and stored in a safe place. Keep your pet on a leash in cold weather - more dogs are lost in the winter than in any other season. Unleashed dogs may also run onto partially frozen bodies of water. Be safe and always remember you can bring your little furry friends to Best Friends for indoor boarding if you decide hit the ski slopes or even head off to a tropical vacation.
