Please DONT watch the YouTube clip yet... See, my facebook timeline is a place that reflects me...good, bad, happy and mad. Heavy, light, profound and trite. (with even a bit of rhyme thrown in now and then!) I think therefore that its perfect that this post is offset perfectly against a stylised photo of my evenings fillet steak that came right before it. That was the trite...now for something a little heavy. The fact that the picture of my dinner will likely get more likes and comments than this post is not a scathing indictment of the character of my fb friends...rather it is testament to how readily we *have* to harden ourselves to the endless appeals around us. But if youre reading this now - dont go - keep reading...youll feel glad with yourself that you did...and even if you dont, I appreciate that you gave it a shot and hung around. Heres why... A few months ago I went to the cinema with my kids. There were the usual trailers and adverts before the film... ...but one of the ads lasting a minute, moved me immensely - and left me in floods of tears, so much so, I could barely collect myself before the film started. When I turned self-consciously to my kids to see if theyd noticed their silly Daddy shuddering and snorting with emotion next to them, I saw that they too were crying. My little monkies too, were moved by the 60 seconds of music and imagery. In the ad you see, tiny, beautiful little children at their most exposed and vulnerable... ...asleep. As the melody of The sunll come out, tomorrow... plays on, accompanied with a haunting child soprano...you see that the children arent only asleep and innocent and dreaming... ....but theyre doing so in the open. Next to train lines. On the pavement. In a ruined, abandoned house. On top of a flimsy piece of dirty cardboard. ... and the horror hits. How exposed and at risk these gentle little lives are. And how wrong and against nature it is. Children should be looked after. End of. If you want to do something to help kids in general - text SAVE to 70008 Buut. You dont JUST have to jump on a plane to affect REAL change anymore (sure thats a great thing to do) but you now CAN make things different and better from your computer or mobile device. Please will you revisit the post below this one (skip past the pic of my blooming dinner) and take like 20 seconds to help a bunch of kids that could really do with it...and share it...please.
