All Citizens of Beaumont are Invited to Participate as We “Pray for One Another” Outdoors at The Event Center Lake 700 Crockett Street, Beaumont Thursday, June 26, 7:00 pm A time for all citizens to pray for teachers, staff, and their families as up to 300 jobs are eliminated in the Beaumont Independent School District --no speeches, no signs, no sermons, just prayer for one another-- 6:45 pm: Gather at Event Center Pick up a candle & form a circle around the lake to create an alternating rainbow of citizens African American, Anglo, Asian, Hispanic 7:00 pm: A call to prayer by the Sounding of the Shofar A leader at each point of the compass begins the prayers • The leader says a simple sentence prayer to the one on his/her right • The person receiving the prayer then says a prayer to the next one • After you say a prayer, you receive the light for your candle Sounding of the Bell During the prayers, the bell is rung 300 times • In respect of those whose jobs will no longer exist • For the dignity of the families directly affected Together we hold high our candles • In hope for our children and our community 7:30 pm: A call to hope by the Sounding of the Shofar An event for all people and especially for our teachers and staff coordinated by Dr. James R. Fuller and Rev. Oveal Walker III pastors of the Calder Baptist and Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist congregations with support of faith communities throughout our city.
