Please Take Note. I was at the Flying Fish Point meeting this - TopicsExpress

Please Take Note. I was at the Flying Fish Point meeting this morning and have come away with a lot more info, and more passion for the cause not only for FFP but for Innisfail and the entire CCRC region as a whole. Id like to invite everyone to start wording the FFP issue around to their friends because it does not just involve the Point, it overflows to all of the Cassowary Coast Region. Bob Katter, Councillors Ian Rule and Mark Nolan, John Kremastos (President of the Chamber of Commerce) and many concerned locals attending the meeting on the foreshore of FFP this morning with a passion to see immediate action taken to both protect and even restore the beach that has eroded away before the next inundation of water starts to take out homes and businesses. The information (a lot I have never heard before) shared left me with genuine concern about the integrity of certain Councillors and staff. I did not take a note book (like and idiot) but some info that was shared surprised me. Did you know that $54mill was spent on the foreshore at Cardwell? Did you know that the new pool project for Mission Beach (now being called an aquatic centre) cost has blown out from $2mill to almost $7mill and the Local Council has just past a motion (with Bill Shannon as the casting vote again) to borrow $3mill for that project. Did you know that funds have been available ($220 K) to see rock groins placed in front of FFP for some time and the Council refuses to act with those funds? Did you know that a local contractor has offered to build one groin, at his expense, and if the groin works, the sand returns to the beach, then the Council pay him for the work. He has also offered, if the groin does not work, to remove the groin at his own expense? Did you know that Mayor Bill Shannon had agreed to talk to State Ministers, and the Premier if possible about funding for FFP at a very recent (rate payer funded) trip to Brisbane? The Mayor managed to talk to the minister about the Mission Beach pool, and did not get an opportunity to talk about FFP erosion and beach restoration. Did you know that a Councillor who has a charter business in the southern area has been given the green light to operate 2 tourist boats out of Mission Beach, when the original proposal was to see several companies operating up to 12 boats out of that same facility? Mission Beach township/business sector is struggling, as Innisfail has been and all Shannon and his mates are interested in is lining their own pockets. What can we do? On December 16, 9.30am there is to be held a public meeting in front of the Council Chambers to send a very clear message to all of the Cassowary Coast that the Council is dealing deceptively and illegally in some areas with its rate payers. I want to encourage everyone in the region to join in the meeting, those from the Northern and Southern regions. The Council works for us and there are some very bad apples in that organisation that need to be removed. We need to start communicating at State level and Id like to see an investigation by the Queensland State Government into some of the decisions and actions made at the Council level. It seems to me that giving Bill Shannon the power to vote for his own agenda has been a very bad decision by all those who voted in the last election. We need to correct that mistake. Lets not forget the Kirrima Range Road decision. Councillor Glenn Raleigh we need your support please. As I said at the start of this post, please start talking to your friends and neighbors about this issue, it is key to the area moving ahead in the future.
