Please allow me to be a knob and rant for a second: Something that drives me absolutely crazy is that it seems almost every other person I meet that likes music calls themselves a producer. Everyone claims to be a PRODUCER these days. Let us get a few things straight please: 1) You are NOT a producer if you have a day job, you are a hobbist or aspiring producer. 2) You are NOT a producer unless you regularly get hired and PAID for your opinion, experience, and track record by other artists (not your own band and NOT your friends). This include song writing, arrangements, hook writing, getting tones, performance coaching, budgeting, development, etc... I can replace the wax ring on my toilet. I dont call myself a plumber. I read a book on how electronics work. I dont call myself an electrical engineer. I watched a few TV shows on physics and got As in math in college, I dont call myself a quantum physicist. I KNOW A LOT about managing bands, but dont call myself a band manager. I LOVE to cook. Ive gotten pretty good at it. I dont call myself a chef. Im going to start telling people I push the *,0, and CTRL+Z buttons 6,000x a day on my keyboard for a living. Maybe Ill tell them that Im a computer programmer...
