Please be careful when leaving your dog tied up outside of shops - TopicsExpress

Please be careful when leaving your dog tied up outside of shops on John Street. On my way out of Boots this afternoon, I was alerted by a fellow dog owner that someone was taking my dog, Charlie, (who was leashed up on a bollard outside) to the police. I was astounded and I panicked as only yesterday he escaped from home when the postman came and was taken to Croft Kennels, incurring us a council and kennel cost of almost £70. I did not want us all to have to go through the same awful process because of, What?! I saw a woman with maybe shoulder length brown hair and I think she had a fringe, around fifty years old, with Charlie and his leash in her arms and I could not believe my eyes. I told her (in not so many polite words) to leave my dog alone and put him down. I was threatened by her behaviour so I unfortunately swore. I was immediately berated by the people around me for swearing but not supported at all. The woman and the two people that she appeared to be with, spitefully told me that Charlie was cold (!), she was worried for his welfare, she owns dogs so she knows exactly what shes talking about and that I should get him a coat, while thrusting the poor lad into my arms. Chorkies are half Chihuahua, half Yorkshire Terrier and both breeds are known to shake for many reasons. More to the point, Charlie has a coat because he is a dog. I do have many coats for him but our trip into town was supposed to be a quick one (I had my wisdom tooth taken out a few days ago and my gorgeous demanding toddler with me - I needed to buy painkillers) so he can cope with waiting for me outside for a few moments as he has done in the several years that Ive been lucky enough to have him in my life. I was left in the street, very upset, infuriated, scared and humiliated as people were staring and I had tried to gather myself up but I really needed a good cry to be honest. As I did, only one person came to support me, so thank you to the man from the Pet Store, who not only came to my aid but he supported me emotionally and empathised with me... So please, be careful with your dogs in town. Be awesome towards those beautiful few who will show kindness, even if you are angry or despairing. And to that woman and her commerades: Dont be so quick to judge. A wisdom tooth extraction really hurts, the pain takes over everything. So having enough patience for this, a toddler and a potential thief is almost impossible. You could have looked at the tag on Charlies harness that has my phone number on it and called it. You could have come into Boots and enquired if anyone owned him. You scared and upset us all, so the reaction that you received or were witness to, was warranted.
