Please carefully consider the following questions: 1) How far did the ingredients that made up the last meal you ate have to travel from the farm to your plate? 2) How were these ingredients grown? 3) Did your last meal promote good health or was it only a tummy-filling, artery-clogging, blubber-enhancing mass of goopety-goo? 4) Did you sit down for at least 15 minutes to enjoy this meal with people you deeply care for? Considering that most of us eat three meals daily, it’s alarming that we hardly ever pause to contemplate these vitally important questions. It’s also deeply troubling that we choose to ignore these questions when we consider that our cognitive function, physical performance, daily vitality, longevity, and overall satisfaction in life depends heavily on what we put into our bodies. Unfortunately, many of us have entirely lost touch with the food that we stuff into our mouths. It seems that everything that’s shoved in front of us is happily shoveled into our bottomless pits and we look around like ravening wolves when its gone. Then when our cupboards are empty we return to the supermarkets like conditioned rats for more. Here we eagerly skip down the aisles tossing boxes and cans of processed junk into our oversized carts and then almost joyfully throw our hard earned paycheck into the laps of corporate owners who obviously care little about our health and lots about our money. Seriously, folks, things need to change. Now. I want to start a food revolution. My dream is to create a movement that’s so powerful and so far-reaching that everyone, regardless of their socioeconomic status, gender, or age will be swept along to a future that reclaims real food for all and rids society of junk food that deteriorates our health. I look for a future with a local, regional food system that nourishes our body’s, drives our economy and restores our ailing planet. To some degree, this revolution has already begun and I’m only finally joining the ranks of a few brave souls who have struggled to regain what our grandparents once possessed and to improve on their successes. If a few persons have achieved so much, imagine what we could do together. In my next post Ill attempt to demonstrate how Chilliwack could easily begin to feed itself within 10 years and every person in BC West of Hope and East of Vancouver Island within 20. This is the food revolution I would like to be a part of. I know its late at night, but this is not wild dreaming. Im just wondering if youd like to be part of this food revolution too...Now Ive got to go to bed because Ive got work to do tomorrow.
