Please come out to our protest derby against the destruction of our beautiful and environmentally unique Bay of Fundy Rivers. The proposed brine dump station intends on dumping brine at the base of the Shubenacadie and Stewiacke River. Today we dropped eel traps at the base of the proposed pipelines on the river. From the moment the first eel trap went into the water, this river became Active Treaty fishing grounds of the MIkmaq Nation with all the protections of the Constitution of Canada and outlines in the Treaties and Royal Proclamation. The moment the traps were dropped, the duties to infringe upon our rights became a much higher legal duty than mere consultations. The company and the crown must obtain the full and prior informed CONSENT of the Mikmaq Nation! So, please join us on Saturday, October 11th, as we stand together as a Nation and support our fight for our water and food. I have heard from Mikmaq and allies who will be coming from New Brunswick to Cape Breton to stand with us, therefore, I am hoping the communities of Indian Brook and Millbrook can assist us in hosting our guest. We will need volunteers as security, food and drinks, cooks for our eels and other food donations. Tents for shade and chairs for elders. Please bring fishing rods, as the NS Anglers Act allows the use of private or agricultural roads for fisher people to access river. Please share event and once again, and donations or help will be appreciated. Be nice to have random draws like Keith J Julian had at our band derby. Maybe smaller prizes...lol. Like Tims cards...lol.
