Please consider helping the sister of our own Firefighter Jeff Pumm in her TIME OF NEED – First came the good news. Amanda Pumm Bernier and her husband, Chris, both volunteer firefighters and emergency medical responders in North Madison, Conn., learned that they were expecting the child they had long wished for. Then Amanda, an athletic fourth-generation firefighter and Town of Tonawanda native whose father was Sheridan Park Volunteer Fire Company chief, found her legs giving out as she climbed aboard a truck to answer an emergency call. The diagnosis: the most aggressive form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Amanda had to spend considerable time in the hospital, but was able to give birth Nov. 4 to a healthy 6-pound, 5-ounce daughter, Arabella Grace. To help pay her medical costs, friends and family here have formed Amanda’s Angels ALS Buffalo and are hosting a Krolick’s chicken dinner and theme basket raffle Saturday in Sheridan Park Fire Hall, 738 Sheridan Drive, Town of Tonawanda. Dinner will be served from noon to 6 p.m., then the raffle tickets will be drawn. There will be live music by Black Rock, Liquid Lunch and Slim Chance and the Can’t Hardly Playboys. Tickets are $8.50 in advance, $10 at the door, and include a sheet of raffle tickets. For info or donations, call Kristin Burr at 725-6221 or Holli Adams at 875-3583. Information can also be found at Amandas Angels - ALS
