DANCE OF THE NATIONS” VICTOR SCHOOL OF PERFORMING ARTS INTERNATIONAL Vocal Workshop Singers will be given the opportunity in this workshop to further their experience on the stage in several Musical Theatre selections from The King and I, Man of la Mancha, the Mikado, Evita, Fiddler on the Roof, The Bakers Wife, Sound of Music, Brigadoon, Porgy and Bess, and many more. Every student registered will be given a featured piece and several group numbers that will be blocked/choreographed for the final performances at Summit High School. The class will focus on stage movement, singing with expression, harmonies in music, and learning how to successfully become a featured soloist. Tuition: $100 - includes costume fee Requirements: 1) Singers with some singing and/or performance experience. 2) Music must be memorized by the first rehearsal Rehearsals: Saturday April 26th, Saturday May 3rd 5:30 to 7:00 (time difference this Saturday only), Saturday 10th, and Saturday 17th Time: 4-6:30 Location: BEAT Studio. Description of the event: DANCE OF THE NATIONS--May 24 at 2 and 7 pm. Dress rehearsal May 23 3-7 Summit High School Auditorium A multi-faceted performance of dances and songs celebrating the diversity of expression through dance movement and musical styles that come out of the many national traditions throughout the world. Costumes for the dances will reflect the style of each country featured. Songs by BEAT performers will mesh with the various dances presented, by singing pieces from a collection of Broadway musicals, operas and operettas, coached by Jonathan and Jimena Shepherd. BEAT performers last year had a great experience displaying their talents and getting more solo time onstage as they develop skills of projection, musicality and confidence. Joy Victor, director of VICTOR SCHOOL OF PERFORMING ARTS INTERNATIONAL, comes from the professional world of ballet. She danced with the world-renowned American Ballet Theatre in New York City, and worked with the legends of ballet such as Mikhail Baryshnikov and Natalia Makarova, considered the iconic ballerina of the 20th century. One of the goals of VICTOR SCHOOL is to bring together young talent in music and dance, giving them opportunity for performance and collaboration.
