Please do not act so surprised as you finally just noticed me looking over at you. This cannot conceivably be this first time you’ve noticed. So many times have a sat right here in this chair staring, looking intently, gazing at your beautiful face. No, don’t even go there and by all means do NOT start stressing over your appearance at this moment. I am not looking at your appearance as the world may see you or even as you may see yourself at times. As you sit and focus on the lines, creases, and crows feet around your eyes and across your face I look past all that. You worry as your roots begin to show in your hair and the curse of time takes over with the grey lightly shining through as if the sun has just hit a beautifully painted stain glass window in the most holy of churches. I look past all that. I do not look at you as if you were 22 again and honestly see no reason for you to want so badly to be there and look so almost, immature. I want to see you as you are for who you are and not the you five, ten, or even fifteen years ago but the you that is in the here and now. So as my hazel blue eyes get the pleasure to look upon your face and the corners of my mouth slightly curl up as if I were a child just discovering sugar for the first time, to me you are so sweet and I get to see so much more. I see you for the inner beauty you bring to me and the peacefulness and calmness that comes over my soul. You were beautiful all those years ago and to me time has not aged you but only graced you to bring you closer to the perfection I always knew was there just waiting to peek out behind the mask you insist to hide behind to cover what the world calls flaws. ~L.W.
