Please dont shoot the messenger! Money is there to do the bypass/flyover- we just need the RMS to get on with it! MEDIA STATEMENT - SCONE LEVEL CROSSING DELAYS THIS MORNING ARTC would like to extend its apologies to local motorists and the wider Scone community regarding the delays at the New England Highway and Liverpool Street level crossing this morning. The level crossings were activated at 7.43am by a north-bound, empty coal service which was brought to a stop due to a fault identified as a broken rail. It is a safety requirement to bring the train to a stand in the event of an infrastructure fault such as that experienced this morning. In accordance with its existing processes, ARTC staff notified Police before 8am and maintenance staff were on site shortly after to assess the fault and identify the best course of action to clear one or both of the level crossings. The team identified that the quickest and safest course of action would be to navigate the train over the broken rail at very slow speed and under supervision. The Liverpool Street level crossing was cleared at 8.45am and the New England Highway level crossing was cleared at 8.59am once this movement was completed. ARTC appreciates this came at a busy time while people were going to work or dropping the kids to school and would like to thank the community for their patience while we worked to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, and again we apologise for the inconvenience. An ARTC spokesperson said. As part of the notification process with Police, local emergency services have access to two emergency level crossing alternatives in Scone, should both level crossings be blocked for an extended period of time such as this morning. The broken rail was at a location north of Scone and was not in the area associated with recent works for the Scone Reconfiguration Project. It was repaired just after 10.30am.
