Please dont take this as any kind of apology for Putin or the Putin regime, but surely the Polish government is being worse than arsey for not inviting any representative of Russia to this event. No matter what anyone feels about past or present Russian leaders and regimes, the fact is that Nazi Germany was defeated on its eastern front by the Red Army. As part of that military victory, the concentration camps in Poland were liberated. Though thousands of inmates died in the forced marches out of them and between them, the overall arithmetic is that very nearly all of the inmates in those camps (or on the way out of them) would have died if, say, we imagined the Red Army not getting there till - 1947, say. theguardian/world/2015/jan/13/vladimir-putin--poland-auschwitz-anniversary
