Please email Greg at: hindy.greg@gmail ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ive just sent an early morning email to a Greg who I feel is struggling more with the meaning of it all now 12000 miles along an isolating walk and with so little feedback as an artist. Here is the email I sent. I am going to take a chance here and also give folks Gregs email address. Feel free to write to him! What the heck - we are oddly his family in a far away virtual gallery. Please send him your encouragement. Remember, Greg does not read the Facebook Group, so Im the one getting the little likes, not him!! hindy.greg@gmail My email to Greg: --------------------- Greg: Look at the bottom half of greghindy/news.html This is part of why I believe you need to use your success to help network and create opportunities (and not negate what you already have accomplished). While you have not seen your own photos, an unusual circumstance and something itself worth writing an article about, I have seen your photos. At least your color photos. Even without the black-and-white photos you have very much succeeded, especially if you put it in the context of the whole project where you walked silently and carried that camera 12000 miles. Who else on earth as walked 12000 miles, kept a vow of silence for a year, carried a large format camera and tripod and film and film tent, shot nearly 2000 sheets of film! And this is the first project for this aspiring young artist. We might also fear you have set the bar so high for yourself. I mean, if this is your first project, what next? The perils of early career success is a topic in itself as well. And a grand success it has been. Interestingly, whats happened is that your walking and resulting isolation, without seeing your photos and having interaction with other photographers and intellectual peers has caused some degree of depression, or at least anomie. IN CONTRASTS is my experience: I am getting all your feedback and approval! Im graciously accepting it for you! I am discussing it with other photographers, intellectual peers and countless caring-engaged-enthralled followers! Its like Im eating your dinner while you are hungry (except for Subway!) I think of our cats where Freddie gobbles up all the food and gets fatter while Pandora gets thinner! I feel guilty, and I try to share, but its so hard across the miles and without you seeing for yourself. So when I hear of you putting down yourself and what you did it seems absurd! Its been a tremendous success and you want to vitiate it? Its because I am experiencing your success ... And you are just walking and with little feedback. So you need to trust me, as the holder of your feedback, and literally the custodian of your film. I understand you want to develop your film. For the same reasons of your needing feedback I am eager for you to see your photos ASAP. I have your color film and wish youd leet me scan it and put it online privately for you to see -- so you can get a dose of it! But I understand that you dont want me to handle it all -- like Christmas mornings past you want to be the one unwrapping it!! And you deserve nothing less. Its just been soooo long, so many months since youve gotten to see the product of your own labors. Maybe you should do the unthinkable -- unthinkable from your staunch perspective of doing art for the sheer enjoyment of doing it, and not for its rewards -- and read the Facebook Group from top to bottom! Is there really an artist who does not, secretly at least, enjoy the successes? If so, that person is either a liar, a failure, not an artist, not a human, or all of the above! Lets get your walk completed and you in to the next step -- and a big and enjoyable one -- of studying your nearly 2000 HD film images, flashing them on the wall in huge proportions as you tell us about them, talking about it with peers and the rest of us, speaking about it publicly, writing about all youve experienced and had so little opportunity to share. I look forward to sharing in that with you Love. Dad
