Please enjoy the support of 10,000+ people from Hawaii (10%+) and 50 other countries that have voiced approval for the conservation of the undeveloped lands at Turtle Bay. It is not just home to plants and animals listed as endangered, threatened and candidate species such as Monk seals, hawksbill turtles, green sea turtles, Hawaiian gallinules, stilts, ducks, coots, owls, bats, yellow faced bees and ohai (sesbenia tomentosa), these species are reproducing here. There are other important plants and animals in the streams, wetlands and ocean here too. There have been over 120 species of bird documented at the adjacent James Campbell National Wildlife Refuge. Punahoolapa Marsh was destined to be restored in the late 1980s by the landowner as part of an agreement with USFWS that destroyed 12 acres of wetland. When it is restored, we can expect the habitat for many usual and unusual migratory visitors and endangered native waterbirds at the Kuilima Waste Water Treatment Plant, to expand. 10,000 people visited the North Shore for the Pipeline Masters final last month. It is obvious that the North Shore is an important backyard for the rest of Oahu and visitors from around the world. Given the recent headlines regarding traffic at Laniakea and coastal erosion at Sunset Beach, it is also apparent that we have reached the limit on on coastal development and traffic. This is the last piece of contiguous coastline and wetland on Oahu. Lets finalize the conservation solution for the undeveloped lands at Turtle Bay, it is both pragmatic and pono. Mahalo for your time, Angela Huntemer M.Ed. Resident of Kuilima Estates at Turtle Bay and Public School Teacher
