Please enjoy this message from our Commander, LTC Sallee: To our mighty Golden Dragon Families, We hope this letter finds you well and back into the routine of the school year. Summer passed us by quickly and Ediana and I hope you all enjoyed a well-deserved leave period. We had a fantastic time at the Regimental Ball – special thanks to the Spychalla Family, company representatives, and the Sheraton Waikiki. Super proud of all the work and the participation. Six-hundred and twenty-eight Golden Dragons and friends attended and you all looked great. Now, we Golden Dragons are being called upon to be ready. Ready to deploy at a moment’s notice and answer a variety of missions our Nation from us. Where they need us to go, we will go, and…we will win. This mentality and expectation is different. While we may not know when, where, or even who we will be facing, we do know WHY we will go. We will do what no one else can or is able to do and we must assemble at a moment’s notice, because we have a responsibility to fulfill our obligations. Families, there are three things we need from you as we go through the next three months as both the Pacific Response Force and the Army’s Crisis Response Force. 1. Be prepared I encourage you and your spouse to update your living will. Ensure your Family has access to the checking and savings account. Talk through your emergency medical procedures. Are you prepared for an emergency? Is there someone who can watch over your children if you are in the hospital? Prepare for emergencies with the right phone numbers and friends to call. Review your powers of attorney, our spouses need them! Ensure you have a reliable transportation plan, even if your Soldier is away. 2. Be strong, strength in numbers Lean on the other families who are working through the same issues. It works! And it’s what makes us a community. Be as involved as you can – everyone understands there are stressors and trials in life. But our Army life is meant to draw us closer together for when we all will need that extra support. Take advantage of the fact that sometimes it’s only other Army Families who understand the challenges we and our Families all face. 3. Be confident Trust in our Nations leaders, in our Division, our Brigade. Trust that the training your Soldier receives is like no other. We train hard and realistically because that’s our responsibility, to prepare for the worse conditions on Earth against a formidable enemy. This is our goal and we know it takes a toll on your time. But trust it is all for a greater purpose. And so, over the next three months, from September through the first week in December we will be the most ready Battalion in the Army. No doubt that comes with a price. But I also expect these three months to be filled with reasonable hours and only occasional alerts. A truly unforgettable time for you all and for the Golden Dragons! Please join our Facebook page for the latest updates and photos. And, thank you for all you do. Sincerely, LTC Ike L.
