Please enjoy this preview of the upcoming Band Christmas Concert - THIS TUESDAY at 7:00pm at St. Andrews Presbyterian. Last Tuesday, our PRCA band under the direction of Dr. Lisa Renteria and assisted by Dennis Tamblyn, performed Christmas pieces for the residents of the Clare Bridge Assisted Living Center who suffer from Alzheimer’s and dementia. Formerly dull faces brightened and smiled, slumped figures straightened, wizened hands clapped and toes tapped as our students filled a very tiny space with a big beautiful sound. Particularly moving was Alzheimer’s afflicted Wesley. He had been a math teacher who’d never, to anyone’s knowledge, even sung in a choir. Although Wesley couldn’t remember most of the lyrics, it was clear that the melodies were still etched upon his brain because he sang exuberantly throughout the performance. Several students commented on his perfect pitch and marveled at his ability to anticipate changes in pitch. At the end of their performance, Dr. Renteria told her students, THIS is what it’s all about. Indeed!
