Please everyone take a moment from our busy day and give thanks. This woman Anna Peck I am proud to call friend! I love you to the moon and back girlfriend! Since I think it says attachment unavailable for too many, I am posting it separately From my friend Anna When I went to work on the morning of 9/11/2001, little did I know how much my life would change before the day was over. It was a gorgeous early fall day. I had on a brand new olive green suit with matching shoes, naturally. The day was routine enough. All our buses got out on time. I took my routine morning stroll to the back of Hudson Pier Depot to stand on the veranda to admire the view. From this vantage point I had my trinity. ..the WTC, the Verrazano Narrows Bridge and the Lady in the Harbor and once in awhile watch the cruise ships come into port....ahhhh what a great view in the greatest city in the world. In the one minute it took for me to turn around to head back in to my office, a few of my colleagues came up to me to tell me there was a hole in the WTC.....HUH? Three strides later I was staring at something I could not wrap my mind around. Because of what had happened to the WTC in 1993, we knew we were going to be needed and started mobilizing. ...then the unthinkable happened. ...A dark Grey aircraft buzzed right over us and headed to the the second building....Oh my God....the rest of what we witnessed will remain forever etched in our hearts and minds. Our only task at hand was to see what we could do to help. And help we did. For the next six months, in addition to our regular bus service, we moved doctors, nurses, iron workers, family members. We provided transportation for funerals. We did we was needed with no recognition , no compensation, no glory. We were the first responders and the unsung heroes. I stood side by side with the most dedicated men and women of New York City Transit. I have the utmost respect for all of them. Some have already passed due to WTC related illnesses. Some are in the fight of their lives and some have not felt the effects yet. I stand with them now and forever. God bless us, every one. And oh by the way, I could never ever wear that beautiful olive green suit with the matching shoes ever again.
