Please find below the statement I wrote as Chair of the Nahant Democrats: Statement from the Chair of the Nahant Democratic Town Committee The Nahant Democratic Town Committee voted, virtually unanimously, to support John Tierney’s re-election to Congressman from the 6th District of Massachusetts. We did so because we knew him to be a fine man, a fine Congressman, and a good friend to our town and to the District. His early efforts to stop the rush to deregulation of big banks and his vote against a wasteful war in Iraq made us proud. We did not know Mr. Moulton in the same way because he had no record in the District. Our ties with John Tierney are not broken. Our relationship with him was based on long experience and was well founded. We will forever be thankful for his hard, dedicated and honest work on our behalf. We are now faced with a choice between the candidate of the Republican Party and the candidate of the Democratic Party in the 6th District. We support, without equivocation, the candidacy of Seth Moulton in this race. We look forward to Mr. Moulton’s campaign based on the progressive values of the Democrats of this district. We expect that he will stand for the values that we share. Our adversaries have different values. While Mr. Tisei is not cut from the same cloth as Tea Party extremists, his Party in Congress is dominated by people who have shut down the government, suppressed voting, denied science, supported the worst kind of adventures abroad, and who like nothing more than to attack the people of Massachusetts, this District and all that we stand for. This election will be about the deplorable record of the Congressional Republican Party and the dominant Tea Party faction that has come to define the Party of No. Democrats are the Party of Yes. Yes to justice, yes to broad political participation, yes to rational health care for all, yes to quality education, yes to an America whose spirit is generous and to the many other positive qualities that make us who we are. As Democrats we look forward to the campaign ahead.
