Please forgive I knows its not Florida but the colors are so Fall North Canol Road, Yukon, Canada To help support military posts in Alaska during World War II, the Canadian and United States governments worked together to build a fuel pipeline through the unforgiving northern Canadian wilderness. Construction of the Canol (short for Canadian Oil) Road proved a daunting task. Harsh conditions dogged the workers at every turn, no matter the season, and although oil began flowing in 1944, the whole project was abandoned just a year later. After the oil pipeline project was abandoned, many service vehicles were simply left behind, like these at the so-called Army Dump, near MacMillan Pass. They now comprise a sort of museum to the Herculean war effort that, despite best intentions and much hard work, never quite lived up to the hopes of those who conceived it. Today, the 279-mile section of the road in Yukon is maintained by the provincial government, and is open during summer months for recreational use. The portion of the road that still exists in the Northwest Territories has been designated the Canol Heritage Trail.
