Please forward and share the below information with anyone who can share this information with others or have girls who may benefit. Thank you! We are excited to offer this program in our community:) Growing Great Girls A new program called Growing Great Girls (GGG) is now being offered in the Rose City area. GGG is for girls ages 13-17. This is a very interactive life skills group designed to meet the unique needs of girls. All girls would benefit from this group as adolescence is a very confusing time where girls are trying to find their place in the world. One recent study from the University of Michigan, Dr. Cheryl King, states, “8 out of 10 teenagers have clinical depression”. This statistic alone denotes a need for teens to have a greater scope of life skills and support and GGG will provide those. There is no pre-requisite for attending. Participation will create rich exchanges between girls that will result in the acquisition of increased self-esteem, life skills and healthy self-expression. Some of the topics covered are developing emotional intelligence, healthy communication, learning decision-making and critical thinking skills. Additional topics encompass understanding healthy boundaries, career exploration, grief and loss and substance-free living. This is a very comprehensive program for any girl age 13-17. The group will consist of 8-10 girls and will meet weekly for 8 weeks. The group format has shown to be the most effective way for teens to learn new skills as they are most receptive and open within their own peer group. The two facilitators will be Shanda Berdan and AnnMarie Shay. Both are licensed professional therapists who hold an MA in Counseling and are licensed through the State of Michigan. Both have experience working with adolescents and strive to make the atmosphere laid back, comfortable and humorous. Program Specifics: Location: Rose City - Location TBA Start Date: Tuesday, July 16th Time: 9:30 am – 11:00 am Cost: $20.00 per session The group will meet every Tuesday for 8 weeks. The cost of this program has been reduced as grants and support has been provided by: Prince of Peace Lutheran Church/Rose City, Walmart/West Branch, West Branch Optimist Club and Chemical Bank/Rose City.
