Please give Shannon a support! My name is Shannon Richards and I am a triathlete dedicated to raising awareness for the wonderful work that Ric OBarrys Dolphin Project does to protect cetaceans and ensure that they remain free in their ocean homes. The Dolphin Project works tirelessly to educate people around the world about the cruelty behind dolphin and whale captivity. I am asking for your help and generosity so that I can get to Japan and run the Sendai International Half Marathon with Japanese activist, Takayo San. The race is May 10, 2015, and our goal is to inspire and educate the Japanese people about the dolphin hunts in Taiji, Japan. While these drives happen in Japan, many citizens are unaware of them. The Taiji fishermen defend these hunts as tradition, but it is not a tradition and has only been going on since 1969. The drives are inhumane and cruel, and are driven by profit and greed. While hundreds, sometimes thousands, of dolphins are captured each year, only a small number are selected and trained for a life of captivity. Those dolphins bring in thousands of dollars in Taiji, and even thousands more as they are forced into dolphin venues around the world. Those that are not selected are brutally slaughtered for meat not even suitable for human consumption. I have done Ironman Texas in 2014 for the Dolphin Project, and will be racing Boulder 70.3 in June, 2015. Your donation will help me secure a costly plane ticket to Japan! If I happen to receive addional support, I will gladly use the funding to help me travel to another race in 2015 in order to raise awareness for the Dolphin Project. Thank you so much for your support! And if you cant support financially, please support Dolphin Project by not buying a ticket to ANY dolphin venue, including places like SeaWorld. Tickets sold to dolphin shows create a demand for Taiji to keep hunting them.
