Please help! From Mr. Sawyer: I just realized that I am short 2 important people for Thursday nights Concert. I need a Narrator for each concert (Lower 6:00 p.m. Upper 7:00 p.m.). I wondered if you could forward this to the PTG to see if they could find anyone who can come to the rehearsal on Thursday morning and then be there that night. Can you include those rehearsal times for them? Below are the Lower and Upper Scripts to help them decide. The Friendly Beasts Script Lower El: Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen and welcome to ________ Elementarys 2013 Holiday Concert for our Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade students. My name is _____________________ and Ill be your narrator for tonights concert. We begin tonight with Ring Little Bells, a traditional German Christmas Carol. This song might have been sung by Ionias first settlers back in the 1800s at holiday time. Ring Little Bells The story of the Nativity is the well known center of the Christmas celebration. This song dating back to 12th century France tells of the gifts to baby Jesus by the animals present at the manger scene. The Friendly Beasts Written in 1949 by Robert Alex Anderson and made famous by Bing Crosby and the Andrew Sisters, Mele Kalikimaka is an Hawaiian themed holiday tune. Mele Kalikimaka means Merry Christmas. Mele Kalikimaka Up On the Housetop was written by Benjamin Hanby in 1864. It is the second oldest secular holiday song with oldest being Jingle Bells. It was this song that first let us know that Santa gets into our house by landing on the roof. Up On The Housetop In 1983, Canadian childrens performer Raffi released Raffis Christmas Album. “Every Little Wish” was written by Raffi and featured a performance by the Canadian Brass. Tonight we are pleased to have Dawn Peterson, a Boyce Interventionist, accompany us on the French Horn. Every Little Wish “The Dreidel Song” or “I Have a Little Dreidel” is the most famous of Hanukkah songs. In the song, the children make several versions of the famous top so they can play the fun holiday game. The Dreidel Song Probably the students favorite song, heres the famous tune about that green guy, Mr. Grinch. Youre a Mean One Mr. Grinch In 1949, Gene Autry had a big hit with “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.” The next year, “Frosty the Snowman” was written as a follow up for the singer. Later, the song was produced into a classic TV show. We end tonights concert with our warmest wishes for a thumpiety thump thumping Holiday! Frosty the Snowman UPPER EL Peppermint Winter Script Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen and welcome to ________ Elementarys 2013 Holiday Concert for our Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade students. My name is _____________________ and Ill be your narrator for tonights concert. Our first song comes from the 2004 film, The Polar Express. Set in Grand Rapids and the North Pole, this song shares two different childrens view of Christmas. Here is “When Christmas Comes to Town.” When Christmas Comes to Town The 4th and 5th graders will next present “The Nutcracker March” from the famous Tchaikovsky ballet, on their recorders. The Nutcracker March The 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade girls sing the beautiful classic English carol, The First Noel. Our soloist tonight is__________________________. The First Noel Our next selection is a new tune by the group Owl City. Their front man, Adam Young has said the song is about my own participation in snowball fights and sidewalk shoveling. Sleigh rides, present-giving and receiving and of course, the ingestion of marvelous Yuletide nutrition (or lack thereof), namely sugar cookies, hot chocolate and peppermint candy canes... It has quickly become one of the students favorites. Peppermint Winter A big part of the music curriculum is to explore different cultures and traditions. Our students have learned about the festival of Hanukkah which ends this week. The next time that Hanukkah and Thanksgiving holidays overlap will occur in about 79,000 years. Here is the “Eight Days of Hanukkah.” Eight Days of Hanukkah Originally written for an Andy Williams Christmas TV special in 1963, this next song has become holiday standard. Whether heard during the holidays or when the kids go back to school in the fall, its sure to bring smile to every face. Its The Most Wonderful Time of the Year! The Most Wonderful Time of the Year Home is a song originally recorded by Michael Buble and later covered by Blake Shelton. The students tonight will present a Christmas version of the song. As many families at this time of the year, the singer struggles with missing their loved ones while trying to make a living. Our number one wish for you is time with your family.
