Please help out our next very stressed Bonus mommy. She really could use our words of encouragement and helpful suggestions... I need advice and support from some of the other stepmoms in the group. My fiance and I are getting married in 90 days and currently there is no court order in place.Fiance has his daughter every week Th-Sun morning and is OVERPAYING child support (based on income he should be paying much less) There has been a lot of drama with BM who we think maybe bipolar because she acts SO crazy...my fiance is a great father, he does more than most would do provided how his situation is. Long story short, because of the lack of structure and court documents, he and I consulted a lawyer and she agreed to take on our case, however, her retainer would interfere with us paying the remaining balances for our wedding. We both want to get the ball rolling with a court order and creating structure prior to our wedding. Unfortunately we dont even know yet if his daughter will be in the wedding....sigh. Do you think it is best to get married FIRST (get those expenses out of the way) THEN retain the attorney to get the court order in place? Like I said, if we retained her now we would have to magically come up with more money to pay our vendors...I SO wish this wasnt even a thing I wish we didnt have to go to court, but she dangles their daughter like a carrot, I wish he wouldve gotten all this straight BEFORE we got together, just so many wishful thoughts... feeling a little overwhelmed with my journey. HELP!
