Please help us raise money for Peanuts medical care! We took Peanut into the rescue last weekend. He was dumped by his owner at the shelter and they called to see if we could help him. Initially it was thought that he was 15+ years old based on the condition he was in. After picking him up we went straight to the vet for an exam. This poor little guy was in horrible shape from a long time of neglect. He was skin and bones. His little spine was sticking up and you could count every rib. He would yell out in pain when you picked him up partly out of fear and partly out of pain from arthritic joints and a luxating Patella in the left rear leg. His ears were packed with the nastiest thick, black sludge I have ever seen. I cant imagine how badly his ears hurt. But, the absolute worst part was his teeth. This poor guy had to be miserable! He has the absolutely worst mouth I have ever seen in a dog! He is missing several teeth already. His little muzzle was so swollen and his teeth that are left are built up with so much plaque and tartar that there are complete bridges of it joining from tooth to tooth and he cant even shut his mouth all the way from all the build up. During the exam there was so much infection in his gums that it was oozing out of the tooth sockets and two teeth came out with it. He was started on ear flushes and daily medication to combat the bacterial and fungal infection. I cant tell you how much black crud we have gotten out of his ears this week. Horrible!! He was started on antibiotics for his dental infection. We will take him back for a re-evaluation in a few weeks. Because of the severe dental disease, the jaw is very brittle and unstable and will likely require a trip to a dog dental specialist in order to remove all the teeth with breaking the jaw. The vet will be better able to determine this after we get the infection cleared up and a better examination can be performed. It was determined that he wasnt quite as old as first thought. He does not have the signs of aging in his eyes so he is likely less than 8 years old. So we have aged him at around 7 years old....with a long time of neglect. I got him home, medicated him for the fleas that were crawling on him, gave him a nice warm bath, administered de-wormer, filled his belly with some good food. (We started him on a joint diet to help with the arthritis and joint pain), wrapped him up in a nice warm blanket and gave him the one thing he needed the most....lots of love! He has blossomed with us this week. The swelling is down in his face, hes eating well, his ears are clearing up, and he has become my devoted little best friend. His weight has come up a bit from 3.1 pounds the day we picked him up to 3.9 pounds. He no longer yelps each time he is picked up and those big, gorgeous ears are always up and those bright eyes are always seeking me out. Although he is doing well and heading in the right direction, we have a long way to go with medical bills to get him neutered and get all of his teeth removed by a specialist. Funds are tight with the rescue right now and I knew this sweet boy was going to need some long term medical care but, I could not let him down. So this is where I have to reach out to all of you for help. His initial vet bill was $140. Im expecting several hundred more to get his dental and neuter taken care of. We need help raising funds for his medical care. Even if you can give $5 it is greatly appreciated and very much needed. We need to raise it quickly so he can get relief as soon as possible from these painful teeth. Please help us with a few dollars towards Peanuts care. Every little bit counts and it all adds up. Thank you so much from Peanut and the Double E Rescue Ranch!!!
