This event is proudly presented by the students of Craig Derry: Craig Derry There is a voice that is, that was, and is yet to come, and this is the voice that has withstood the test of time. Craig Derry, one of the industry’s longest practicing and hottest vocal trainers is a vocalist himself and a performance tested singer, who has worked all over the United States and the world for more than 40 years. Craig’s work as a vocalist, vocal producer and trainer spans across every genre of music, including and not limited to the vastly successful hip-hop phenomena with The Sugar Hill Gang to current day phenomena like K-Pops Wonder Girls. As well as artists affiliated with Reggae, Reggae-tone, Salsa, Dub-Step,Club and House Music as well as world wide mega stars such as Katy Perry, Marc Anthony, Alicia Keys, Sean Kingston,Angie Stone, Anthony Hamilton, Maxwell and many more. In addition to training at his daily New York City vocal aerobics workshop, his technique is often recruited by many well known and successful producers, such as Grammy award winners Salaam Remi, Chris Lord Algee, Rodney Jerkins, Teddy Riley, Rob Fusari, producer of early Lady Gaga material, Wyclef Jean, Sean P. Diddy Combs. Craig can also be found in the studio coaching and producing vocals for multi-talented celebrities like the academy award nominated actress, Abigail Breslin or preparing vocalists like Tristin Wilds, (aka Mack Wilds) actor from the television series The Wire, Katy Perrys Today Show live television performances of the songs I Kissed a Girland Firework and Maxwells Madison Square Garden sold out performance. Over the years, Craigs vocal technique has successfully been practiced as the quintessential training method for the classic american art form, often entitled Blues, Jazz, Gospel, R & B, Pop, Hip-hop and Rock n Roll, the most popular music of all time and the highest revenue earning musical art form of all time. Craig has also sung background for musical icons such as Mick Jagger and Michael Jackson. His illustrious career includes working in various background ensembles with Some of the great R & B power voices recently high lighted in the documentary by Darlene Love entitled 20 Feet from Stardom. Which just won an Oscar. These great singers; Martha Wash, Kelly Price, Lisa Fisher, Melanie Daniels, Cindy Mizelle, Audrey Wheeler and Brenda White-King, Fonzi Thorton are aware of the challenges that must be met by professional singers. This very enriched involvement with singers in all capacities through the years even legendary singers from the golden era of R&B Isaac Hayes, Solomon Burke, Etta James, Wilson Pickett, Ronnie Isley, Luther Ingram, Chuck Jackson and Linda Jones encompasses volumes of information passed on to fellow singers as vocal exercises and aerobics. As a singer, Craig knows the obstacles and the extreme demands that the human voice incurs while touring. Obstacles like colds, fatigue, overt shyness, stage fright, hoarseness, and the overall rigors of the road are not impossible to overcome. Over the years Craig has learned as do most singers that by training, working and adopting specific techniques, performers can minimize or eliminate those obstacles. As a result of Craig’s experiences and his witnessing of colleagues’ battle these obstacles, Craig has developed a new and unique teaching method that he has entitled, Vocal Aerobics. Vocal aerobics is a method of vocal training that pertains to the building of the diaphragm muscles and improving cardio and support and ear training enabling recording artists and all singers to perform with accuracy, confidence and consistency. The audiences that hear hit songs over the radio and see hit videos want to see these songs performed by their favorite artists. Artists must be prepared to deliver inspiring live shows, whether on T.V., or at clubs or in concerts. Craig Derry has developed a regimented exercise program that has assisted successful artists both established and emerging artists in improving projection, breathing, ear training and endurance by practicing these methods.
