Please join me in congratulating our Victorian riders who have been selected into the BMXA Development Academy. .......................................................................................................... BMX Australia names Athletes for Development Academy BMX Australia is pleased to announce the athletes who have been selected into the BMX Australia Development Academy. BMX Australia has been working closely with the AIS/ASC to create a new and exciting National Athlete Pathway for BMX that aligns with the AISs Winning Edge objectives, and as part of this, new initiatives are being developed for the Development Academy to ensure rider welfare is a priority and athletes will know where they are at, what benefits they are entitled to, what the next step along the pathway is and how to get there. This initiative will underpin the BMXA High Performance Program leading into Rio and see athletes receive more resources, support and opportunities than they have in the past. Full details of the National Pathway Framework for BMX will be released shortly together with the information on the 2015 BMX Australia shadow squad. The Development Academy provides riders (aged 14 years through to Elite for men and women), and coaches with a clear pathway and is linked directly with the BMX Australia High Performance Program providing improved continuity and communication. “Our sport continues to evolve at a rapid rate,” BMX Australia General Manager Mark Louis said. “By investing into the development of the sport our goal is to maintain Australia’s success through developing athletes who can adapt and perform at the sports highest levels” “Performance standards amongst athletes are a long way from where they were 5 years ago. What we are doing with the Development Academy is developing our athletes in line with what is needed to progress smoothly to the High Performance Program. “The riders selected have shown they are talented and by nurturing their potential we can assist them in reaching their goals”. The Development Academy will continue to be supported by two nationally recognised coaches Sharon Willoughby (SA) and Luke Madill (NSW) who both demonstrate the experience & skill required to lead the Academy.
