Please join us tomorrow, Sunday December 7th, the second Sunday of Advent, as we conclude our sermon series on the book of Colossians, entitled: Jesus is Everything: The Supremacy and Sufficiency of Christ in Colossians! First, in our Sunday school class at 9.00AM, well continue our series of lessons on the book of Romans, as we continue to look into Romans 1.18-32 under the heading, Without Excuse. Then, in our 10.00AM service, well hear from Colossians 4.7-18 under the title Loving Alliances: The Sufficiency of Christ to Create Godly Fellowship between Believers. Since the beginning of human history - from early humans who hunted together to medieval guilds, modern labor unions, and military alliances its been acknowledged that there is strength in numbers - in allying ourselves with others. God intended for human beings to be each others allies, not their enemies. But even though human beings have joined together in the ways just mentioned, at the most fundamental and important level, the fallen condition of human beings, prone, as it is, to pride and self-centredness, has caused people to not live with other people as allies, but as enemies, competition to be defeated, or things to be used for their own advancement and enjoyment. The answer to this problem is Jesus. Well see tomorrow, that through the Gospel Christ casts down self from the throne of our hearts, and comes to sit in that place himself. As Christ and His cause becomes our goal we can for the first time find real allies in our brothers and sisters in Him because we share in the same ultimate goal as they. These alliances with other believers, which God desires for us who know Christ, will always be characterized both by the common goal of Gods glory and by love for one another. How is it with you? Since having come to Christ, are you walking through life, no longer ultimately alone, but rather with allies who love you, comfort you, pray for you, and challenge you in Him? Are you being an ally in life to your Christian brothers and sisters by loving them, comforting them, praying for them, and challenging them to go on with the Lord. Well see tomorrow that were not only called to do this by Christ - were also empowered by Him to do it.
