Please keep anonymous. Hi guys, just a bit of information about a upper hunter coal mine and the contractors on site. Theyve just cut the hourly rate by $6.50, which is a big hit. The company are saying because of coal prices being so low, that it is necessary to keep the contracted workforce. At the moment they are in negotiations with the union over a new EA. One of the things they want to take away is seniority from the permanent employees, the union is understandably standing against this measure. While talks have been going on, the company have cut the contractor workforce by 160 but still want the same rate of production, which isnt quite happening. Also, while going through these cost cutting measures, they are spending 35 million dollars over the next 5 years to control dust, because of the proximity of the population, which are about 5kms away. The company contracted to control the dust are a South African company, along with the general manager, who most employees think has a few fingers in that pie. There have been 2 lots if lay offs and both times, the mine manager has come in the day before and congratulated the workforce on breaking records for the previous month. Apparently, this bloke is notorious for getting his own way and wont stop at nothing to achieve it. There will be a time, that when all is done and dusted, nobody will want to work for this company and I for one really hope that is the case, because of the way they are treating their employees and contractors, lets see them lose money!! They say that weve been fat for a long time and now is the time to lose some of it. How about these clowns at the top, start stripping some of their fat and help the company. Again, picking on the little bloke.
