***Please let this be the last post on this subject*** Most of you know about the Senegal that was left alone in a house in MN, and removed at the owners request by Jennifer Belland . She placed it in the care of the Parrot Help Rescue in MN. Arrangements were made to have the bird come to my rescue in AZ. The arrangements were made without the knowledge of the owner of Parrot Help Rescue, Renee Quimbly. The bird will not be coming to my rescue...not yet, and maybe never. I spoke at length Wednesday evening with the owner of Parrot Help Rescue, Renee, and we were able to come to a very professional agreement that will satisfy everyone involved. So here is the final decision at this point in time, and how we arrived at this conclusion. Parrot Help Rescue received Pete (the Senegal) from Jennifer. Jennifer filled out the relinquishment document giving ownership of Pete to Parrot Help Rescue. Once a bird is surrendered, the bird is owned by the rescue. At that point it is up to the rescue to determine the best placement for the bird. This is no different from any other rescue, including mine. Renee will be evaluating the bird for behavior and adopt-ability. If she feels that the bird is not fit to be in a home as a companion parrot, then she has agreed that Pete will come to me to join the other Senegals in my rescue. Again, this decision is hers to make because the bird is under her care, in her rescue. He is not in danger, he is no longer alone, he is having his basic needs met and he will be evaluated fairly. I feel certain that Renee will do the right thing and get Pete where he needs to be. I am grateful to Jennifer for taking Pete out of the empty house with the filthy cage and horrible conditions. If it were not for her quick response to the situation and the owners desperate pleas, who knows what could have happened to him. At least now he has what he needs... food, water and shelter. We all need to take a step back and realize that each state (country) has its own laws concerning businesses. Parrot Help Rescue is located in MN, and must abide by MN laws. It is not up to us to police MN businesses. The local parrot community in MN is complex, just like it is in many other locations around the world. The folks involved in bird rescue there all know each other, have crossed paths, and have even worked together. We need to allow them to conduct their businesses without our interference. We do not directly know Renee, or the other rescues in that location. It is not up to us to judge. That community can take care of itself, monitor the rescues accordingly, and abide by all state, local and federal laws. I do want to commend everyone for the effort put forth to help this bird. It shows just how much support this group can give to birds in need. Weve all helped one another in this group so much. People have found wonderful Senegals through the help of this group, we have all helped fund a woman in need so she didnt have to give up her bird, we have rallied around those that have lost their birds, we offer support to those with sick, injured and dying birds, we pull each other through times of despair when it feels like there is no alternative but to give up, we help each other daily by sharing our experiences and advice, we laugh and cry together, and many of you have helped support my rescue. What an awesome group this is. I am so proud to be a part of this Senegal community. I would like to ask that this be the last post about Pete. I think that it is best if we all go back to enjoying our group, our birds and each other. We are all here in this group to have fun, share our birds photos and stories, and to get help/advice from each other. Lets get back to having a good time.
