Please let your interested young people know there is one week left to submit an entry in the First Flight Commemoration Contest. All participants will receive an airplane flight and one lucky young person will receive a free hour of dual flight instruction. We are looking forward to the entries and introducing a new generation to the majesty of flight and engineering. ******************************************************************************************************* To commemorate the anniversary of the Wright Brothers first flight and the birth of our industry, the Greater Huntsville Section, in coordination with Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 190, is sponsoring a video contest for relatives of AIAA members who are between the ages of 12 and 17. The contest winner will receive a free hour of flight instruction. All entrants receive a free airplane flight, courtesy of EAA. WHO CAN ENTER: Any relative of a Greater Huntsville Section member who is between 12 and 17 years of age. NOTE: The age limit is based on the EAA’s guidance for appropriate ages to receive initial flight instruction. Contestants must list their sponsoring AIAA member and their relationship to the member. HOW TO ENTER: 1. Produce an original 3 - 8 minute video on one of these themes: a. How has my world been impacted by the development of aviation? b. Why did the Wright Brothers succeed in flying when others failed? c. Discuss the four forces of flight and how the Wrights addressed these forces. 2. The video may contain public domain images and video clips, correctly cited, along with original graphics and artwork. A coherent message to address the theme is essential. 3. Upload your video to YouTube at YouTube and note the link. 4. Fill out the application form (page 2 of this document), include the YouTube link and e-mail completed form to [email protected] no later than 11:59 pm CST on December 7, 2014. 5. Contestants may submit more than one video but can only win one flight. Submit one form for each video entered. JUDGING: Greater Huntsville Section members will vote on the videos. Links to the contestant videos will be sent to the membership after December 7 for voting. The contestant receiving the most votes will be the winner. DEADLINE: The completed application form with the link to the contestant’s video must be received at [email protected] no later than 11:59 pm on December 7. PRIZES: Everyone who enters will fly! The contestant whose video is selected as the winner will receive a free hour of flight instruction in a light aircraft courtesy of EAA Chapter 190. All entrants will receive an orientation flight in a light aircraft via the EAA Young Eagles program. Flight dates are to be determined but expect flights to occur between January – March 2015. ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNER: The winner will be announced on December 17, the anniversary of the Wright Brothers first controlled, powered flight.
