Please like the page and follow the instruction and share among your friends. A digital campaign that asks people to support the North East. The act is simple. You become proud of the difference and make the joke powerless. Imagine having to convince your own citizens that you are not an outsider. Nido Tania was killed. But this hasn’t stopped the racial acts of violence and abuse on Northeast. Northeast students getting beaten in Gurgaon, employees in Bangalore getting abused – articles like these come and go but nothing seems to change. Racism is an issue that Indians tend to ignore. The belief is that we are not like that, with the assumption that it is a problem restricted to a region or group of people. However the ground reality is very different. People from Northeast face racial biases on a daily level. The most common slur being about how we look. Does a Punjabi and Tamilian look the same? Then why is Northeast’s ethnicity abused and questioned? This is not a Northeast issue. This is an India issue. It is time we raise a voice against this discrimination and celebrate difference. Yes, some of us may have Mongoloid features, so what? Shouldn’t we celebrate the difference instead of abusing it. The beauty of India lies in its diversity. Such deep rooted racist attacks can only be solved when everyone joins the cause. It shouldn’t be a us versus them. Because everyone is affected and it is a comment on the state of our nation. And this is why, we have started the campaign #eyeamindian. The act is simple. If you are from the North East, take a photo with your fingers pointing at your eyes. Write a message of support and tag your friends – from the region and not-from-the-region, to do the same. And if you are not from the Northeast, raise your eyes with your fingers and ask your friends to do the same. Our aim is to raise a voice against racism by taking on the very racist slur that causes so much hurt and anguish. You can help us remove this discrimination and respect diversity. Let’s together celebrate each other’s looks. Because “Eye am as much an Indian as you.”. To know more about #eyeamindian, log on to facebook/eyeamindian
