Please no judgmental comments, we need help, not a lecture. Hey guys, I really need some help with my 1 year old greyhound. He is really destructive and has caused £100s of pounds worth of damage in the last 2 days and £1000s since we had him. He played tug of war with my curtains yesterday and ripped them to pieces and also snapped my curtain pole. He has chewed through doors etc. He nearly set my house on fire yesterday when I went upstairs to use the phone (I was only gone for 3 minutes), and he dragged a load of paper to my fireplace and started shredding it. ?Hes dug through my sofa, eaten my floor/carpet etc. I think he has separation anxiety and we have tried everything the vet and trainer/specialist has told us too. He has an old duvet of mine that smells of me, he has toys to keep him occupied. He goes on walks twice a day and has a run for at least 10 minutes on the park (along with the walks). He has another dog to keep him company as well. We would like to use a crate but he howls every time you put him in. Our friend is a dog trainer and we had him look after our greyhound whilst a relative was in hospital and we went to stay down there with her. Even he couldnt get him in the crate and not howl. We tried the, leaving the door open, putting treats, toys bedding etc in there. We covered the top to make a den and he hates it. The howling wouldnt be a problem, but someone in the house works nights so is in bed during the day and obviously a howling dog isnt practical. I will add that there is nearly always someone at home. We are a household of 5 and theres probably 1 day a week when he is alone. But as I have said, we only have to leave him to go and have a 5 minute shower and there is destruction everywhere. We just dont know where weve gone wrong with him. Its getting to the point where weve just had enough and cant cope. Weve been trying to fix this since we adopted him in January this year and to no avail. We have paid out at least £2000 in training and specialist behaviourists, vets etc and then another £1000+ fixing everything he has broken. My patience has now run out and so has the money. Weve owned dozens of dogs (including 2 greyhounds) that we have trained them all fine and they have lived to a ripe old age and never had a problem, but this one is just defiant. he has been neutered and he is 1 year old if that makes any difference. I just need help that doesnt involve specialists because I cant afford any more. We have also tried him on all sorts of food at request of the vet/behaviorists and none have made any difference. Thank you in advanced to anyone who helps. x
