Please pray for the area surrounding Ukarumpa, our support center and home in PNG. Heres some more information about what has been going on lately: After many months of local peace, fighting erupted last weekend between two villages, a few miles from the SIL Center in Ukraumpa, Papua New Guinea. The hostilities began as a dispute between two men over the ownership of a tree that had been cut down. The dispute quickly escalated and fighting broke out between their two villages, eventually resulting in the death of at least two other men. The police are actively involved and have assured the Aiyura Valley organizations, including SIL, that the fighting has been localized to the two villages. While no apparent resolution seems imminent, the threat to Ukarumpa Center seems to be low. However, the center is impacted because some employees are either from one of these two villages or would have to travel through these villages to get to work, and they have been advised to avoid this area. Please pray for resolution of the conflict and for peace in the area. Pray for the departments on center that are short-staffed and for the employees whose safety is at risk.
