Please pray for these families. 8/11/2013 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE This weekend turned tragic for three families in Lee County with three fatalities. Friday night about 7:24 PM, Opelika police received 911 call to an incident in the 2000 block of Glenwood Avenue off of Rocky Brook Road. Upon arrival by police and Opelika Fire and Rescue, and EAMC EMS, they found an unresponsive 17 year old female pinned between her vehicle and her residence. CPR was immediately initiated upon freeing her from between the house and vehicle. She regained a pulse while being transported to the emergency room via ambulance. She was later transferred to Children’s Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham and admitted to the intensive care unit. She suffered extensive internal abdominal injuries and died of her injuries Saturday morning at 4:49 AM. It is unclear exactly how the accident occurred but is believed that when she exited her vehicle, she may not have put it in park and the vehicle started rolling. In her attempt to stop the vehicle, she became pinned between it and the residence. No foul play is suspected and the accident remains under investigation by Opelika Police and the Lee County Coroner’s office. Saturday evening about 7:44 PM, Auburn police received a 911 call to the neighborhood pool in the Preserve on Redtail Lane off of Farmville Road to a possible drowning. Upon arrival by police and EAMC EMS and Auburn Fire, they found an unresponsive 6 year old female with bystanders performing CPR. She was rushed to EAMC emergency room where efforts to revive her were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 8:35 PM. According to witness reports, it is unknown exactly how long she was down. She is reported to have been a good swimmer. No foul play is suspected. The child has been taken to the Alabama Dept. of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for a postmortem exam. Her name is not being released by this office at the request of the family. The incident remains under investigation by Auburn Police and the Lee County Coroner’s office. Shortly after midnight Saturday night, 28 year old Michael E. Roberts of a US Hwy 29 North address in Opelika was killed when the vehicle he was a passenger of, left the roadway on County Road 388 about a mile north of I-85 and overturned, ejecting him from the vehicle. He was rushed to EAMC emergency room in Opelika with multiple blunt force injuries. He was pronounced dead in the emergency room from his injuries at 2:00 AM. The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Opelika Post of the Alabama State Troopers, the Chambers County Coroner’s office and the Lee County Coroner’s office. No other details of the accident are known at this time.
