Please read. The Bill on the Freedom to Fish Act has passed the Senate and is headed to the Presidents desk. Thank you to Wade White and all of the Senators and Congressmen that went to bat for us Bowfishers. This was a huge battle, and we just want to thank everyone in Western KY and Tennessee that went to war over this issue. When the time comes to vote for these guys again, everyone remember what they have done . There are many people each year that are introduced to the outdoors below these dams, as well as, local economies that rely on their use. Thanks from Ironman Bowfishing to all involved! Announcement on the FREEDOM TO FISH ACT: Great news! As you may recall, we were all able to stop the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from barricading the waters below 10 KY & TN dams on the Cumberland River a few months ago. As the Corps was installing the buoys - it was passed by the U.S. Senate and House with bipartisan support and signed by President Obama to stop the move to restrict these waters. But this legislation had a 2 year sunset. This week the permanent bill passed the Senate and the House and is on the way to the Presidents desk for his signature. A bill permanently banning the Corps from taking away our right to fish and boat below the 10 dams in KY and TN on the Cumberland River. Thanks to Congressman Ed Whitfield, Senator Lamar Alexander, Senator Mitch McConnell, Senator Rand Paul and Congressman Jim Cooper. Thanks especially to my neighboring countys Judge Executive Chris Lasher who joined me on day one of this fight when winning wasnt expected. But the most important part was the army of regular folks all over Western KY and TN that rose up to demand a solution. These hard working individuals with expertise and commitment helped battle this daily and was the difference between winning and losing. As we all came to see during this challenge - it wasnt about fishing - it was about freedom. Standing by as spectators allowing freedoms to be chipped away in the name of safety or any other cause isnt an option. I have heard from many of you that this battle and victory has renewed your belief that government can be responsive to the people. That when major harm will result from a government agencys action we still have the power to stop or change it. Just as freedom can disappear one step at a time - so to can government of the people, by the people, and for the people be restored one step at a time. Wade White Lyon Co.
