Please read because its your history, and although many of you have heard the name D-Day, do you even know just a small amount about it? After all, they are our heroes and we should celebrate and commemorate. The 6th day of June 2014 sees the 70th Anniversary of the 1944 D-Day landings. A mission planned throughout the previous year in 1943. This historic date in1944 saw one of the most audacious and heroic wartime operations in the 20th century. Around 156,000 Allied soldiers landed on the beaches of Normandy in the biggest sea-borne invasion in military history. Known as Operation Overlord, the Allied mission was clear - to take back France from the invading Germans moving inwards from the coast. Landing on 5 beaches designated with the codenames by which they are still known today: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword, the soldiers stormed the coast from Saint-Marie-du-Mont to Ouistreham, taking thousands of casualties. The ensuing Battle of Normandy lasted for 80 days as the Allies repelled the German forces. I hope that everyone reading this posts is celebrating the lives that lived and acknowledging with respect the 1000s that were killed in action. Ive fundraised for many years for many different military charities, but I am always overwhelmed when my close friend Charles Burnett III goes over and beyond anything I have ever witnessed to support these heroes. Many years ago at his home in the New Forest he held the anniversary re enactment of the Battle of Goose Green and even had WWII bombers taking off from his air strip carefully timed with pyrotechnics on his front lawn hiring the military in for an amazing reenactment. Everyone at his private function, his close friends, family and military personnel were in uniform to set the theme. During the exquisite dinner he made several announcements and held an auction and a HUGE amount of money was raised...well with powerboat racing friend, the adorable Andreas there, a shipping tycoon, he had plenty of generous friends. CB III soaked up all the costs and then donated every penny raised through wealthy and giving friends and family to these Heroes. ❤️friends like this come just once a lifetime. This weekend on the 7th June, Charles yet again goes above and beyond with an event supporting the veterans of war with a D-Day reenactment like no other... Andy Ringmaster Screen the famous Forces Pin-up artist will be joining me at this amazing event and will be donating the amazing Machine-gun Kelly framed print especially done to commemorate this day. Charles yet again has gone above and beyond, and has hired the wonderful Red Arrows for a 22minute display over the end of his air strip. A small swing band will be playing as guests arrive. The mock battle will commence shortly after in front of his house and there will be a static display of WWII on his airfield. The beauties on display will include the very rare Seafire, Hurricane, Harvard, and a Piper Cub and some will have been put in D-Day livery. The aircraft will be near the hanger set amongst props and re-enactors will be there in order to recreate a scene similar to a WWII airfield of 70 years ago. With a chance to watch the vintage warbirds depart..... An orchestra will play during the day and a wartime band in the evening followed by dinner in the garden Marquee followed by his usual immense firework display topped only by the Olympics....😆 Ive met many people throughout my life of travelling the globe, but CBIII was my first Powerboat racing sponsor and a close friend now for 2 decades. Its never about him, its always about others. He always gives and never counts the cost. With his gregarious and colourful personality he never ceases to amaze others with his ideas and giving nature. If you want to know more about D-Day or if you can donate then please see the charity below I have attached. But there are many charities in support. This weekend will see many events so please visit your local event or even turn on the TV and learn something. Friends this special and this giving come but once a lifetime ❤️❤️❤️ Lee Barrett is gutted he is missing out, but my partner for the day is Debra France....she was my partner last time lying in a trench with me 😆😆😆 There are many charities which are there to support our heroes and one is D-Dayrevisited.co.uk
