Please read this. Hopefully it will make all of you feel good inside. I just got back from another trip to philly with my mother at the cancer treatment center of america and I just thought I would share this thought and life lesson with you guys. All of us get wrapped up in our own lives and all of our own problems etc and we get down and feel sorry for our selves. This morning when I arrived there with my mother, there was a patient in the lobby, a black lady playing her keyboard. She was playing high energy gospel songs like when the saints go marching in, and this little light of mine. She had the place rocking! She was just waiting for the shuttle bus along with others back to her hotel. This morning, instead of sitting there feeling sorry for herself and worrying about what she had going on, she chose to share her gift with others. My mother was not having a great visit this time, there was lots of stress with lots of things going wrong as well as not feeling well from her chemo. This small gesture from someone we dont even know really touched my mother and brought her tremendous joy. She was so uplifted by this and it really turned her whole day around. I guess what im saying is this. Everyone in that hospital is dealing with traumatic life altering sickness. You never realize how this touches peoples lives untill you are there with your own mother or loved one. These are people who despite their own illness and life trials still manage to be positive and reach out to others by sharing their musical gifts, reading to another patient, volunteering their time and so many other things to reach out and brighten up someones day. It brought tears to my eye to see how amazing these peopke are. It made me feel so selfish and self absorbed. I learned a valuable life lesson today. You never know how much something so little can mean to somebody. Its very humbling and makes you realize just how lucky you are. The little every day things we worry about are far less signifficant than what someone else is dealing with and yet these people still manage to selflessly do things for others who are a little down. I think Ill take a lesson from this and I encourage you all to do the same. I know this probably worded the best but I think you know what I mean. Sorry for the sappy post, I normally dont take the time to post such things as im not usually sappy and emotional, but im telling you, when you witness these things because life has placed you in such a place, its very humbling. Today I witnessed true grace.
