As a country, we turn our backs, elect right wingers who vote to slash the meager services available to the homeless while we celebrate the uber rich who have grown fat on public largesse. Here are a few statistics reported in the article: 83% (19 of 25) of cities surveyed, in 2013, reported an increase in the number of emergency food requests from the previous year 91% reported an increase in persons seeking food assistance for the first time 80% reported an increase in frequency of visits to food pantries and emergency kitchens each month. No matter these findings and despite the growing need for food assistance, cities have chosen to target the homeless by prohibiting their access to food sharing programs. Read on and share
