Please remember Rachel Greene Plyler and family, who post all the obituaries for loved ones that have passed in our area, as her husband Mr. Ray Plyler, passed away this morning. Mr. Mance “Ray” Plyler, age 81, of Monroe, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2014, at his residence. Funeral Services to celebrate his life will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at Davis Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Brent Carpenter. Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. Mr. Plyler was born on December 31, 1933, in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. He was born into a large family of fourteen children. He served his country for six years, as a US Navy Veteran. He worked for Lance Packing Company in Charlotte and then Johnson Motor Lines, until they went out of business. He retired from Consolidated Freight Lines in 1990 . He was a truck driver for a total of 26 years. Ray was the son of the late Mance and Glennie Myers Plyler. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Price Staggers Plyler, who died on January 12, 1986. He is survived by four children from his first family: Judy Staggers Deese and husband, Grady Eugene of Lancaster, South Carolina, Pat Staggers Johnson and husband, Mickey, of Monroe, Raenell Plyler Owens and husband, Randy, of Winston-Salem, and Billy Ray Plyler and wife, Joy Williams, also of Monroe. He is also survived by his second wife, Rachel Greene Drake Plyler of the home. They were married on July 27, 1991, and were married for 23 years. He is also survived by her children, Crystal Drake Pittman and husband, Robert, Tammy Drake Baucom and husband, Joey, all of Unionville, Fairley Drake and wife, Jessica Taylor, of Fairview. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, Douglas Deese and wife, Annette, Lynda Deese Scott and husband, Rick, all of Lancaster, South Carolina, Danny Johnson and wife, Kim, Russell Johnson and wife, Detreia, Mandy Johnson Bock and husband Phillip, all of Monroe, Meredith Plyler Black and husband, Jonathan, of Knoxville, TN, Philip Ray Plyler of Monroe, Seth Owens and Abigail Owens, both of Winston-Salem, Lesley Poplin Pulley and Kyle of California, Ellis Baucom, Kaila Pittman, Victoria Pittman, all of Unionville, Aydan Drake, Wyatt Drake, and Salem Drake all of Fairview. Also surviving him are great-grandchildren, Megan Deese, Morgan Deese, Mason Deese, all of Lancaster, Josh Johnson, Tyler Johnson, Lacee Sullivan, Landee Staton, Kaden Bock, Cameron Bock, Devin Bock and Cooper Bock, all of Monroe, and Jonas and Jaxon Black of Knoxville, TN. He is survived by one brother, B.C. Plyler and wife, Iris, of Pageland, South Carolina. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Wilson Plyler (wife Kate Myers Plyler) of Fort Mill, South Carolina, Joe Plyler (wife, Peggy Gainey Plyler), Lee Roy Plyler (wife, Betty Jo Plyler), Frank Plyler, who passed as an infant of Pageland; five sisters, Emma Plyler Watkins (husband, Denver) of Rockwell, Annie Lee Plyler Moree (husband, Wiley), Dora Mae Plyler, all of Pageland, Maude Parker and husband, Curtis of Monroe, Ella Rose West and husband, Johnny, of Kershaw Nursing Home, formerly of Pageland. Ray was preceded in death by one half-brother, Sam Plyler (Hattie Threatt Plyler); two half-sisters Dollie Plyler Tadlock Barr (husbands, John Tadlock and Marshall Barr) Janie Plyler Moree (husband, Walter Moree) a great grandchild, River Lee Drake and a stepson, Warren Staggers. The family will receive friends Monday, December 22, 2014, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Davis Funeral Home at 1003 East Franklin Street in Monroe. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Hope Second Advent Christian Church, 6804 Morgan Mill Road, Monroe, North Carolina 28110.
