Please review the attached warning released from the United States Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration. Despite the initial release of the warning on March 20, 2014, the Herkimer Police Department has been receiving recent reports of similar phone scams related to the IRS. Inform elderly relatives who may not have access to Facebook as they become vulnerable to such scams and often become victims. If you receive a suspicious phone call and do not owe taxes, call TIGTA at 1-800-366-4484. If you owe Federal taxes, or think you may owe taxes, hang up and call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040
