Please say a little prayer for Coco Chanel. Around 11 last night I gave her a treat and she must have tried to eat it too fast and it got lodged in her throat. After a few attempts of getting it out she started spitting up blood and foaming at the mouth. I rushed her to the U of I vet hospital and she was barely breathing. They took here back to ER and next thing I knew they were running to me and said they had a code red and did I want her resuscitated. Im hysterical. Next they said she wasnt getting enough oxygen even with the cage so they wanted to do a trach to help her breathe so they could exam her more. They then took her to X-rays and it showed excessive fluids around her lungs which they said was pneumonia aspiration which is caused by the lungs getting inflamed from a foreign matter and vomiting. This in turn ended up causing her to have pulmonary edema which is caused by fluids building up around the lungs thus causing her to not be able to breathe until the fluid subsides. She will be in Intensive care for a few days. They feel good about her prognosis if she gets through the day.
