Historically this is a LIE. Clement Atlee , British PM of that era said it was entirely due to Subhash Bose and his INA. This had a strength of 60,000 and fought in Imphal- Kohima battle. Some 24,000 INA troops were KILLED> yet nehru calls it a non- violent struggle. After the war , British put 10 INA officers on trial in red fort to humiliate all Indians. Mutinies broke out in Royal Indian Navy- over 20,000 sailors took part. Units of army also revolted. 2.5 million Indian soldiers who had taken part in WWII were being demobilised. They were very angry. The Brits were terrified and left in a tearing hurry just one year later. Yet the court historians blanked out the name of INA and Bose. Nehru hated the Armed Forces and did his best to marginalise and weaken them. This led to the DISASTER of 1962. and vitiated civil- military relations in almost all congress periods of rule.
