Please share this if you live in Arlington, or know someone who does! If you get a red-light ticket, you are under ZERO obligation (legally, criminally, civilly, or otherwise) to pay it. The ticket is a civil offense. Not a criminal offense (i.e., a speeding ticket), and it will NOT go against your driving record. Even though its a civil offense, and they try to scare you with the threat of a collections agency, it will NOT go against your credit record. Essentially, the offense is moot. So dont pay the fine. Nothing will happen. They cant even withhold your vehicle registration renewal. (You can thank our very own county tax assessor for that! :-) ) Eventually, we will have enough signatures on our petition drive to force this to a referendum vote by the citizens of Arlington, where the red-light cameras WILL be voted down. Also, several state legislators (current & future) have placed this issue on their to do list for next years legislative session, which will ban the red light cameras STATE WIDE. So sit tight, my fellow citizens... And rest assured that something WILL be done to bring an end to the Orwellian tactics of our local gvmt!!! The future is bright, my friends... Grab your shades!
